Here's something that I never saw happen in all my years at Boys Ranch, and I think it is awesome.
The Boys Ranch Roughrider boys basketball team is in the playoffs. They have earned a first-round bye in the statewide tournament, and they are really doing well. There was apparently a nice article about them in the Amarillo newspaper, but I haven't looked it up.
The coach of the team is a second-generation staff member. Chuck Bailey played basketball under Coach Ed Bawcom in the 70's. His father was T.J. Bailey, who was on the staff at the Ranch for many years. (He was my coach in 8th grade, 9th grade and through high school, and he was a very good one.)
Congratulations to Coach Bailey and the Roughrider Basketball Team! Hopefully their playoff run will end with a State Championship at the Tournament Finals in Austin. If one of you in Amarillo can keep us posted on their schedule, maybe some of the rest of us could get together and go see them play!
