Sunday’s Amarillo paper carried an obituary for Joe Lee Thompson, 62, who passed away Friday, January 29 in Amarillo . Services were Monday in Amarillo . He was an alumnus of BR.

Obituary

AMARILLO, Texas – Joe Lee Thompson, 62, died Friday, Jan. 29, 2010.

He was born March 28, 1947, to Tommy and Pauline Thompson in Liberal.

He was a retired diesel mechanic. He served in the Army in Vietnam, where he received the Purple Heart.

Survivors include two sons, Dustan Harp and Roque Thompson, both of Amarillo, Texas; one daughter, Michelle Ward and husband, Nick, Amarillo; and two grandchildren, Caden Thompson and Emery Ward.

o Memorial services were at 11 a.m. today at Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors Ivy Chapel, 2800 Paramount Blvd. in Amarillo.

I knew Joe and have thought of him often over the years. I never asked anyone about him and always figured he went back to Liberal, Kansas. He and Dean Warren were both from there. I lived there four years with my aunt and uncle but never knew either of them while I was in Liberal. So long Joe. You will be missed.

Joe, I remember the lesson you taught me about getting the last drop of anti-freeze out of the jug and every time thru the years, your advice I would follow and think of you..
