If you are not already a paid CFBRAA member I want to encourage you to become one.
Our association is doing good things and helping out many with special needs and scholarships.
We aren't doing as much as we would like to do and not as much as one would expect, especially if you or someone you are close to are in need of financial help.
We are limited by the funds we have available, so what we can do is modest compared to the needs.

Here is what we were able to accomplish this year with less than 300 paid members:
1. Helped 15 families in crisis situations, providing medical help, housing, utilities, clothing, etc. You provided nearly $11K in crisis support to families.
2. Helped 9 alumni families send their children to college, providing $6K in scholarship assistance.
3. Helped scores of new alumni with transportation, providing $4K for vehicle maintenance and fuel for the Alumni Support Center.
4. Provided $500 to the residents of the Alumni Support Center to help with Christmas presents for their families.
5. Provided $500 to the homes at BR as awards for the Christmas Contest winners.

Alumni Get-Together

Postby David Rattan » Sun Dec 10, 2006 2:12 pm

While y'all are planning your barbecue, I want you to know you are more than welcome to come to the Dallas Gathering February 3rd. That goes for anyone reading the posts on this Forum. Plans are already being made to include a really good meal, hand-rolled cigars, a "casino night" and lots of visiting with people you haven't seen for a while (maybe ever...) along with the possibility (likelihood?) of the continuation of the "war stories" we tell here.

Boys Ranch / Girls Town alumni from all eras are encouraged to make this your "alternate homecoming" any time you can, and it is not limited to people who live aroung the Dallas-Fort Worth area. The event has been a lot of fun each year it has been held, and it will be even better if you turn your friends on to it and help them get plugged in to the forum and the get-together.

I don't like Dallas nor all the traffic, besides I'm a small town boy. Maybe I listened too the wrong people up there that first year and got a parking ticket for my troubles. So the only time you will ever see me is at the rodeo's and to some out of town trips to other smaller towns.

You're still invited...

Postby David Rattan » Mon Dec 11, 2006 1:55 pm

The first year it was held, I was way late getting there, couldn't find the location, and wound up going to another place (which happens to be where we have it now and which is easy to find and which has its own parking lot which is paid for so we don't have to...), so I can relate to your sad experience...

But I was really glad my wife and I went the next year with one of my friends from the '70's, Rickey Wedel and his wife. It was worth it to see the people who were there, and we ate and enjoyed adult beverages and iced tea and laughed more than is normal and talked and had a really good time until about midnight. (You learn all kinds of interesting things about way back when...) It was worth the trip just to hear Scott Carriker tell about his first trip to California after graduating and to hear Lance Eakright recounting some Summer Trip stories.

I hope a bunch of you can make it this year and will share your stories.

David what are the details of the get together again. I'm banking all of my anual leave this year so I can cash out at the end of the year. However I have six months of Sick leave I need to take. I don' know if my wife can get off from teaching.

Dallas Gathering

Postby David Rattan » Mon Dec 11, 2006 11:15 pm

The event will take place on Saturday, February 3rd. It will be at Eddie Deen's Ranch which is on Lamar right down the street from the Dallas Convention Center. It is actually very easy to get to. Eddie Deen is a caterer of the first order, and they do an awesome job of putting on an event. Britt Hammond works there and makes sure we have a first class deal. It will start at 6:00 p.m., but nothing says you can't come by a little later. I really don't want to miss any of it, though. There will be a really good buffet style meal, and the Alumni Association Board of Directors will be advising everyone what is happening with the Association and how it relates to the membership. The cost is very reasonable, especially for what you get. The prices will be published shortly, but you will find it to be a good deal for everything they serve, and if you were taking your wife out for something this nice, you'd probably pay a lot more for it elsewhere. We are having a casino night as a fund raiser for the Dallas Alumni Chapter, and the Charter Members of the Dallas Chapter will be signing their names on the charter document. Officers will be elected for the Chapter. As far as the casino night, there will be Texas Hold'Em, blackjack, and roulette. It's all for fun, and no one has to play if they don't want to. We think we will have some very nice prizes that can be won. It will be a very enjoyable event, and the more the merrier. We will have no problem with room, so bring your families and every ex-Rancher or Girls Town alum you can.

There will be more info posted because we have already had the first organizational meeting for this party, and I know some letters are going out this week to people whose addresses we have. If you want to be on the mailing list, send Bob Sarpalius an email and let him know what your address is. Your address will not be given or sold to anyone and will only be used to contact you about BR Alumni happenings with your permission.

Hope this is helpful information, and I really hope a bunch of you make it a point to be there.
