If you are not already a paid CFBRAA member I want to encourage you to become one.
Our association is doing good things and helping out many with special needs and scholarships.
We aren't doing as much as we would like to do and not as much as one would expect, especially if you or someone you are close to are in need of financial help.
We are limited by the funds we have available, so what we can do is modest compared to the needs.

Here is what we were able to accomplish this year with less than 300 paid members:
1. Helped 15 families in crisis situations, providing medical help, housing, utilities, clothing, etc. You provided nearly $11K in crisis support to families.
2. Helped 9 alumni families send their children to college, providing $6K in scholarship assistance.
3. Helped scores of new alumni with transportation, providing $4K for vehicle maintenance and fuel for the Alumni Support Center.
4. Provided $500 to the residents of the Alumni Support Center to help with Christmas presents for their families.
5. Provided $500 to the homes at BR as awards for the Christmas Contest winners.

Many pictures viewed

Postby Tom Weissinger » Sun Aug 05, 2007 4:09 pm

Bill Purdy and I were here at the same time looking at some of these pictures. Today was a different day and I got to see many of the pictures full size unlike other times I had tried to do so.

I did not recognize anyone not already identified, but I saw many familiar faces, just could not bring the names to mind. I did see the aerial photo from 52. It was so unlike anything of the ranch I had ever seen. If you are still browsing Bill, Howdy.

Hi, Tom. Most of the pics are from the period just before I went to the Ranch, but it was good to see pictures of guys whose names you would hear being mentioned by staff and the older guys. I also enjoy watching the changes in hairstyles and clothing (probably been reading too much cultural history the last few years).

I remember being at the Ranch for the Firehouse dedication, as well as the building of the Natatorium and Gym. In fact, Mr. Hamilton taught me to swim in the Natatorium. I remember we had to perfect our strokes and kicks laying atop boxes before he would allow us in the water, where we began the process all over again. His "survival" techniques in the water came in handy when I had to go through "overboard" drills at boot camp and "escape free ascent" training at submarine school years later.

Lots of memories .....

PS - Leo, my memory is Edwards won most of those games (grin, nudge)

I remember when the pool and gym were built. I played in the first basketball game in the new gym. Now the new gym is the old gym. Funny how things work over time... :)

"Semper Fidelis".
You can join the Army, you can join the Navy and you can join the Air Force but, you BECOME a Marine!
Having earned the title of Marine it becomes a integral part of who and what we will become later in life.
