If you are not already a paid CFBRAA member I want to encourage you to become one.
Our association is doing good things and helping out many with special needs and scholarships.
We aren't doing as much as we would like to do and not as much as one would expect, especially if you or someone you are close to are in need of financial help.
We are limited by the funds we have available, so what we can do is modest compared to the needs.

Here is what we were able to accomplish this year with less than 300 paid members:
1. Helped 15 families in crisis situations, providing medical help, housing, utilities, clothing, etc. You provided nearly $11K in crisis support to families.
2. Helped 9 alumni families send their children to college, providing $6K in scholarship assistance.
3. Helped scores of new alumni with transportation, providing $4K for vehicle maintenance and fuel for the Alumni Support Center.
4. Provided $500 to the residents of the Alumni Support Center to help with Christmas presents for their families.
5. Provided $500 to the homes at BR as awards for the Christmas Contest winners.

Alumni Commerce

Been thinking about this for awhile, so I'm goin to throw it out there.

Some have alluded to opportunities to build community on the forum in a variety of ways, so I'm going to start a few new threads. If you like them, post away. If no one does, they will die a quiet death in 60 days. No big deal...

The first one is "Alumni Commerce" or, more to the point, "Shameless Plugs for Business". It will be a thread where you can post your profession or expertise and advertise for free to those on the forum. If anyone wants or needs your services, they can contact you via email. If they don't, they will say nothing. By the way, Mr. Nicholson, if this violates the spirit of the forum, please remove the thread.

I'll start...

My professional career has been in trucking and transportation and logistics since I graduated from college in 1982. Most of that time has been in LTL (Less Than Truckload, for those of you not familiar with the jargon...) and I now have added Truckload and Logistics to what I am able to do for people. Basically, if you manufacture or distribute products anywhere in the 48 contiguous United States, I can get it transported for you from where it is to where you want it. This is not moving household goods (as in you want to move from where you live to where you want to live). We're talking freight.

If I may help you or if you wish to refer someone to me I could do business with, feel free to email me through the email system of this forum.

One idea that the Development Committee is considering is an "Alumni Chamber of Commerce". A one stop shopping on the alumni website, and in print, that could be shared 24-7 and during alumni events. More than just the forum, the Chamber of Commerce concept could expose alumni businesses to other potential customers or alumni in their area in picture, weblink and with greater content.

Great idea. Maybe the forum can demonstrate the interest level in a project like this.

I set up a member commerce forum and moved this thread there. Good luck everyone.
